-----

I was asked in Ravelry if this Möökö pattern is somewhere in English and because I didn't know of a English version I asked the writer if I could translate it in to my blog. She said it was okay, so here goes. The original pattern can be found here.

-----

The Size is about 80cm-98cm So it's for a 1-year-old to 2-year old depending on you're own gauge. The original pattern writer had a very loose gauge.

The original yarn was was a Finnsh yarn called Kelo from Novita, it is a Super Bulky yarn knitted and crocheted with a size 8mm / Us 11 Needle. In this pattern the hook used was 8mm / Us L.

If you want to find a yarn as close as possible to the original, check the weight and yardage.  The original yardage of the skein is 98 yards (90 meters) and the weight is 100 grams (3.53 ounces).

I'm using the American terms of crocheting.

Rs = right side
Ws = Wrong side
Ch = chain
st = stitch
sts = stitches
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet

-----

The cardigan is crocheted first in one piece and then when the decreasing starts you crochet first the left front, then the right front and then the back. Sleeves are crocheted separately. There is always a 1ch in the end of a row (not on the last row) and after you turn, jump over it (I haven't written it).

Right, left and back bottom:

Chain 51 sts.
Row 1 (rs). Turn and crochet sc starting from the 2nd sts, turn.
Row 2-24. Crochet 1 sc to all sc, turn.

The original cardigan had 24 rows and the length was 26 cm / 10 ¼". If you're gauge is tighter or looser, make as many rows that is needed for the right length.

Shape left front armhole:

Starting on the left end of the right side.

Row 1. Crochet 12 sc, turn.
Row 2. Skip 1 sc, crochet 11 sc, turn.
Row 3. Crochet 10 sc, turn.
Row 4. Skip 1 sc, crochet 8 sc, turn.
Row 5. Skip 1 sc, crochet 6 sc, turn.
Row 6. Skip 1 sc, crochet 4 sc, turn.
Row 7. Skip 1 sc, crochet 2 sc, turn.
Row 8. Crochet 2 sc, fasten off.

Shape Right armhole:

Starting on the left end of the ws.

Row 1. Crochet 12 sc, turn.
Row 2. Skip 1 sc, crochet 11 sc, turn.
Row 3. Crochet 10 sc, turn.
Row 4. Skip 1 sc, crochet 8 sc, turn.
Row 5. Skip 1 sc, crochet 6 sc, turn.
Row 6. Skip 1 sc, crochet 4 sc, turn.
Row 7. Skip 1 sc, crochet 2 sc, turn.
Row 8. Crochet 2 sc, fasten off.

Shape armholes on the back.

Staring from the left side of the rs. Jump over 3 sc looking from the earlier made shaping of the armhole.

Row 1. Crochet 20 sc, turn.
Row 2. Crochet 20 sc, turn.
Row 3. Skip 1 sc, crochet 18 sc, turn.
Row 4. Skip 1 sc, crochet 16 sc, turn.
Row 5. Skip 1 sc, crochet 14 sc, turn.
Row 6. Crochet 14 sc, turn.
Row 7. Skip 1 sc, crochet 12 sc, turn.
Row 8. Crochet 12 sc, turn.
Row 9. Skip 1 sc, crochet 10 sc, turn.
Row 10. Skip 1 sc, crochet 8 sc, turn.
Row 11. Crochet 8 sc, fasten off.

Sleeve (make 2):

The original sleeve was 27 cm / 10 ½", so measure and add or decrease rows if needed. It is first worked in the round. And it's worked flat when the decreasing starts

Chain 18 sts. Join to 1st sts with sl sts to crochet in round. If you want, you can place a marker her and slip it after every that way it's easier to know where the row starts.

Row 1-10. Crochet 18 sc.
Row 11. Increase 1 sts by crocheting 2 sc in one sc, crochet 17 sc. (= 19 sts)
Row 12-14. Crochet 19 sc.
Row 15. Increase 1 sc, crochet 18 sc. (= 20 sts)
Row 16-18. Crochet 20 sc.
Row 19. Increase 1 sc, crochet 19 sc. (= 21 sts)
Row 20-23. Crochet 21 sc, turn.
Row 24. Crochet 19 sc, turn.
Row 25. Skip 1 sc, crochet 17 sc, turn.
Row 26. Skip 1 sc, crochet 15 sc, turn.

Row 27. Skip 1 sc, crochet 13 sc, turn.
Row 28. Skip 1 sc, crochet 11 sc, turn.
Row 29. Skip 1 sc, crochet 9 sc, turn.
Row 30. Skip 1 sc, crochet 7 sc, turn.
Row 31. Skip 1 sc, crochet 5 sc, turn.
Row 32. Crochet 5 sc. fasten off.

Sew the sleeves to the raglan seams of the cardigan with a tapestry needle.

Hood:

The hood is crocheted straight to the collar.

Row 1-2. Crochet 28 sc, turn.
Row 3. Crochet 14 sc, skip 1 sc, crochet 13 sc, turn. (= 27 sts)
Row 4. Crochet 13 sc, skip 1 sc, crochet 13 sc, turn. (= 26 sts)
Row 5-6. Crochet 26 sc, turn.
Row 7. Crochet 13 sc, increase 1 sc, crochet 13 sc, turn. (=27)
Row 8. Crochet 27 sc, turn.
Row 9. Crochet 14 sc, increase 1 sc, crochet 13 sc, turn. (=28)
Row 10. Crochet 28 sc, turn.
Row 11. Crochet 14 sc, increase 1 sc, crochet 14 sc, turn. (=29)
Row 12. Crochet 29 sc, turn.
Row 13. Crochet 15 sc, increase 1 sc, crochet 14 sc, turn. (=30)
Row 14. Crochet 30 sc, turn.
Repeat row 14 as many times as it takes for the hood to be long enough to cover the head. Fasten off.  Fold the hood in half so that the front borders are together and sew the top borders together.

Finishing:

Crochet 1 row around the front sides and the hood. You don't have to make holes for the buttons, because the yarn is so bulky that the buttons can be through the sts. Fasten off.

Möökö / Monster:

Crocheted with a size 3 mm hook. It's between Us C & D hooks. Use DK or Sport weight yarn.

Body:

Chain 17 sts.
Row 1. Turn and start from the 2nd sts, crochet 16 sc and turn.
Row 2. Crochet 16 sc, turn.
Repeat row 2 as many times as it takes for the pocket to be the size you want it to be.
Fasten off.

Foot (make 2):

The foot is crocheted straight to the bottom of the body, crochet one to the left side and one to the right side.

Row 1. Crochet 3 sc on to the border, turn.
Row 2. Crochet 3 sc, turn.
Row 3. Crochet 3 sc and chain 3 sts, turn.
Row 4. Crochet 6 sc.
Fasten off.

Head:

Chain 17 sts.
Row 1. Turn and start from the 2nd sts, crochet 16 sc and turn.
Row 2-5. Crochet 16 sc, turn.
Fasten off.

Eye (make 2):

Make a loop from the yarn and crochet straight to the loop.

Row 1. Crochet 7 hdc to the loop with a color you want the eyes to be, tighten the loop, sl st to the first hdc. Fasten off.

Row 2. Crochet 2 sc to every hdc of row 1 with a white yarn. sl st to the first sc. Fasten off.
Embroid the pupil in the middle of the eye with a black yarn, and make a little projection with a white yarn if you want to.

Tooth:

Crochet in to one sc of the upper border of the body. Crochet 6 dc and sl st to the same sc where it's crocheted. Fasten off. It can be modified in a sharper shape with a tapestry needle if it isn't sharp enough.

Hand (make 2):

Chain 14 sts. Turn.
Row 1. Crochet 3 sc and chain 3 sts, turn.
Repeat row 1 until you have the amount of fingers that you want.
Row 2. Crochet 11 sc to the arm. Fasten off.

Finishing:

Sew the parts on to the front of the cardigan and make the body in to a pocket leaving the upper border unsewn.

Koko 4v / n. 110 cm
Puikot Koon 5.5mm pyöröpuikot

Sanoinkin edellisessä postauksessa että näitä lankoja on jäljellä ja yritän ettiä jotain sellasta mekkoa typylle mihin näitä vois käyttää. Novitalta löytyi kaarrokeliivin ohje (vaikka musta tää on enemmän mekko...) ja typy tykkää. On näitä vieläkin jäljellä vaikka kuinka paljon, eli seuraavana luultavasti jotain huivia tms, jossa ole käyttänyt edelleen näitä samoja lankoja :)

Yarn Novita Huopanen (100 % wool; 160 meters / 158 yards; 3.53 ounces / 100 grams), Novita Puro (100 % wool; 100 meters / 109 yards; 1.76 ounces / 50 grams), Schachenmayr nomotta Wash + Filz-it ! fine (100% wool; 100 meters / 109 yards; 1.76 ounces / 50 grams), Schoppel-Wolle Reggae Solid (100 % wool, 100 meters / 109 yards; 1.76 ounces / 50 grams); Scraps
Yardage 319 meters / 349 yards
Size 4-year-old
Needles 5.5 mm / US 9 circular needles

I said in the last post that I've got a bunch of these yarns and I'll try to find a pattern where I can use them. I found this from a Finnish pattern/yarn company called Novita.

The best part is that the 4-year-old loves the tunic and the worst (well not literally worst) is that I've still got a bunch of these yarns. So probably the next thing I'm making is still from the same yarns :)

Ainakin Novitalla on noita Purosta tehtyjä ohjeita muksujen neuleisiin.

Size about L / US 12 to 14
Needles Size 6 mm / US 10 Circular needles

I've got a big stash of red Novita Huopanen yarn and I've been searching for a pattern to use it to for quite a long time now. And I've got a big stash of different scraps of other fully wool yarns that are about the same weight. I found this pattern from Ravelry, I seached by yarn weight. The original yarn is different so the look is quite different. And because I'm me I didn't check my cauge and the size is a bit big for me. But it doesen't matter, because I'm going to use it in the winter under other clothes or maybe now in the spring with a quilted vest.

I've still got a stash of these yarns, so I'll have to find another pattern. I was thinking of a tunic for my older daughter. I know that Novita has patterns for those in one of their yarn that I have. I'll go and check their patterns.
